ABC Programming Rumors Discussed Online

Word is spreading that ABC may be eyeing a pro-Trump panelist for The View after Donald Trump’s resounding victory in the 2024 election. The rumor, reportedly shared with The New York Post by an anonymous source, suggests ABC execs are reevaluating the balance—or rather, the lack of balance—on their flagship talk show after facing criticism for its heavily left-leaning commentary.

The concern? The show’s current lineup, which includes Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines, risks alienating a significant chunk of the viewership in a post-2024 political landscape where a majority of Americans voted for Trump.

The View, which bills itself as a platform for “different perspectives,” has had a history of showcasing only one type of “Republican”—the anti-Trump Republican. With panelists like Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin, who are as critical of Trump as their left-wing co-hosts, there’s hardly a pro-Trump voice in sight.

The insider source told The Post that ABC’s higher-ups are feeling the pressure to bring in fresh viewpoints that resonate with pro-Trump viewers, a demographic they’ve sidelined for years.

“Everyone on The View endorsed Kamala Harris. They lost. They are out of touch with America,” the source reportedly said. “For a show about different perspectives, The View doesn’t seem to have any when it comes to Trump. ABC bosses don’t want to alienate the pro-Trump demographic.”

Indeed, the hosts’ open disdain for Trump and his supporters has become a hallmark of the show, leaving little room for genuine debate or differing perspectives. And with Trump now set to return to the White House, this heavy bias is proving problematic for network execs who know that viewers want representation.

Of course, the big question is what would happen to the existing hosts if a pro-Trump panelist were added. As the source put it, “The question is what will happen to the Whoopis and the Joys if they bring on a Trumpster?”

Adding someone who genuinely supports Trump could create a dynamic tension with the likes of Goldberg and Behar, who have spent years ridiculing and condemning Trump and his supporters. It’s unclear how well a pro-Trump panelist would be received by the current cast—or how much of an honest voice that person would be allowed to have.

Beyond The View, the report suggests that ABC execs are rethinking their overall approach to covering Trump’s second term. “At the end of the day, these changes aren’t about politics. They are about economics,” said the source. “Trump got more than half of the vote.

TV networks need to find pro-Trump voices and diversify viewpoints to reflect the various perspectives of Americans.” It’s a pragmatic acknowledgment: Trump’s election win has shown that mainstream networks like ABC risk losing credibility—and ratings—if they continue to present a one-sided view of the American political spectrum.

However, ABC’s public response to these rumors was straightforward. A spokesperson for the network told The Daily Wire: “This report is not true. The View is an opinion-based show featuring a diverse panel of women with different points of view – the current panel is clearly resonating with audiences given that the series just had its highest rated episode in more than a decade and hit a 4-year high in total viewers.”
