We recently covered President Biden’s trip to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where he paid tribute to the heroic passengers of Flight 93 on the anniversary of 9/11. As solemn as the occasion was, an unexpected—and rather amusing—moment followed when Biden found himself in a lighthearted exchange with a local Trump supporter, which ended with him donning a Trump hat.
It all started when Biden, visiting with first responders and their families, offered one of the men at the fire station a presidential hat. In return, Biden asked for the man’s Trump hat. What followed was a frank and humorous back-and-forth between the two. When Biden offered to autograph the hat he was giving away, the Trump supporter, clearly not missing a beat, joked, “You remember your name?” Biden responded in good spirits, “I don’t remember my name, I’m too old,” to which the man quipped, “You’re an old fart.” Biden, not one to shy away from the banter, agreed, saying, “Yeah, I know, I’m an old guy.”

The exchange continued as Biden asked for the Trump hat, and the man—clearly the jokester in the room—asked if Biden wanted *his* autograph. “Hell no,” Biden replied, laughing. But the man pushed for one more victory, encouraging Biden to actually *wear* the Trump hat. After a bit of playful resistance, Biden caved and put it on, much to the delight of the onlookers. The crowd erupted in laughter, and the man, now something of a local legend, said, “I’m proud of you now, you old fart!”
This lighthearted moment quickly made waves on social media, with some saying that the guy probably wouldn’t have to buy himself a drink for a while. It was a legendary troll, and Biden, despite his frequent digs at Trump supporters, seemed to take it in stride.

But, of course, Biden couldn’t resist throwing in something odd, seemingly referencing Trump’s controversial debate comment about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, with a bizarre remark: “No eating dogs and cats!” It felt out of place and seemed to be a jab at Trump’s comment, but it only added to the strange mix of humor and awkwardness.
To top it off, Biden posed for pictures with several kids at the fire station, many of whom were wearing Trump shirts. One shirt even read “I’ll be back,” a nod to the famous *Terminator* movie line—another example of the playful trolling Biden faced during his visit. It turns out this wasn’t even the first time; Biden had been “trolled” by kids in Trump gear at the same station on a previous visit.

Biden’s spokesperson, Andrew Bates, later claimed the president wore the Trump hat for “bipartisan unity.” Sure, maybe that’s the official line, but it’s hard not to chuckle given Biden’s long history of painting MAGA supporters as extremists. The moment was ripe for Trump supporters to have fun with it, while Kamala Harris supporters might have been left scratching their heads, wondering what Joe was thinking.
Some even speculated that Biden’s move might have been a subtle jab at Harris, especially given the ongoing tension surrounding her place in the administration. Whether it was a lighthearted mistake or something more calculated, one thing is for sure: this little hat stunt will give Trump supporters plenty to laugh about, and maybe even make Harris folks groan a little.
