Pop Star Faces Backlash For Tour Decision

Meghan Trainor’s decision to cancel her upcoming “Get In Girl Tour” was framed in plain terms: too much at once, not enough time to be where she felt she needed to be.

The announcement, posted to Instagram Stories on April 16, came less than two months before the tour’s scheduled launch in Michigan on June 12. For fans expecting a summer run of shows tied to her latest album, the message landed abruptly.

Trainor described the choice as the result of “a lot of reflection and some really tough conversations.” The timing was not incidental. Alongside preparing for a national tour and promoting new music, she and her husband, Daryl Sabara, had just welcomed their third child in January through surrogacy.

That addition, she said, shifted the balance in a way that made the tour no longer workable. Her explanation was direct: she needed to be home and present, not split between competing demands.

The response online did not settle into sympathy. Instead, it fractured quickly into skepticism and mockery. Some users questioned the stated reason outright, suggesting the cancellation had more to do with weak ticket sales than family obligations.

Comments ranged from blunt accusations to sarcastic jabs, with several comparing her situation to other performers who have toured while raising children. Others went further, taking aim at her use of surrogacy, turning a personal family decision into another line of criticism.

What stands out is how quickly the conversation shifted away from the logistics of a canceled tour and toward assumptions about motive.

There is no public data in the backlash itself to support claims about ticket sales, yet the narrative took hold in certain corners of social media almost immediately. At the same time, the scrutiny over how she welcomed her child added a separate layer of commentary that had little to do with the tour itself.

Trainor has not responded to the criticism. Her original message ended with an apology and a promise to return to performing when she can. For now, the tour is off, the dates are gone, and the discussion around it continues to unfold without any further input from her side.
