Russian businessman and former senator Umar Dzhabrailov has reportedly died at age 67 after being found with a gunshot wound at a luxury residential complex in Moscow.
According to multiple reports, Dzhabrailov was discovered in a pool of blood at the Vesper Tverskaya complex and rushed to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. He later succumbed to his injuries. Law enforcement officials have reportedly reached a preliminary conclusion that the death was a suicide, though an investigation remains ongoing.
Dzhabrailov, a prominent figure in Russian business and political circles, previously served as a member of Russia’s Federation Council and made an unsuccessful bid for the Russian presidency in 2000. Over the years, he was known for his high-profile lifestyle and associations within elite international social circles.

His name resurfaced in public discourse after documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice included email exchanges between Dzhabrailov and Ghislaine Maxwell dating back to 2001. In one message, he wrote about plans to meet Maxwell in Moscow, expressing a desire to “arrange welcoming things.” Maxwell responded that travel changes had delayed her visit and asked whether they could meet at another time.
Dzhabrailov had publicly acknowledged knowing both Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. In past comments, he described Maxwell as a “soulmate” and said he had been introduced to Epstein through her. He later expressed regret over Maxwell’s life sentence, stating he had not realized the extent of her alleged involvement in Epstein’s crimes.

Reports also indicate Dzhabrailov maintained connections with prominent figures in the fashion and entertainment industries, including Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer.
In recent years, he had reportedly faced financial challenges, including business complications linked to the ongoing war and the reported freezing of a corporate bank account shortly before his death. Additionally, some outlets noted that he had survived a previous alleged suicide attempt approximately six years ago.
Russian authorities have not released extensive official details beyond confirming the investigation. As inquiries continue, the death of a once high-profile political and business figure with documented ties to internationally scrutinized individuals is likely to draw further attention.
