Fed Judge Issues Ruling On Trump Admin Freezing Programs and Payments

Oh, would you look at that? Democrats, who just a year ago were openly encouraging the Biden administration to ignore court rulings, are now shrieking that Trump is destroying democracy for challenging judicial overreach. The hypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Let’s break this down. On January 31, District Judge John McConnell Jr. of Rhode Island issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration from freezing payments for federal grants and programs. This is the same activist judiciary that spent the past decade acting as a legislative branch in robes, overriding elected officials whenever it suited the left’s agenda.

So what did Trump do? He called out bad rulings for what they are—politically motivated interference from judges who think they run the country.

“Judges should be ruling; they shouldn’t be dictating what you’re supposed to be doing,” Trump said Sunday night.

Vice President J.D. Vance took it even further, making a point that should be obvious to anyone who understands how government works:

“If a judge tried to tell a general how to conduct a military operation, that would be illegal. If a judge tried to command the attorney general in how to use her discretion as a prosecutor, that’s also illegal. Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power.”

But of course, Democrats and the media immediately went into full meltdown mode. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) made sure to turn the outrage dial up to 11, claiming, “We are staring the death of democracy in the eyes, right now.” Because apparently, questioning a leftist judge’s decision is the end of the rule of law—unless, of course, it’s Democrats doing the questioning.

CNN’s Joan Biskupic got in on the hysteria, breathlessly declaring that “Trump’s administration is openly challenging the centuries-old power of the judiciary.” The New York Times even ran a piece titled “Trump’s Actions Have Created a Constitutional Crisis, Scholars Say.” Oh wow, “scholars say”? How official! Except we all know that “scholars” in these stories are just partisan law professors who always seem to arrive at conclusions that just happen to align with Democratic talking points.

But here’s the part that really exposes their game: when Biden was president, these same people were calling for the courts to be ignored.

Remember when a Texas judge ruled against the abortion pill mifepristone? Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) went on record saying:

“President Biden and the FDA must ignore it.”

Not just appeal it—ignore it.

And then there was Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who went on CNN and agreed:

“I believe that the Biden administration should ignore this ruling.”

So let’s get this straight: when Democrats don’t like a ruling, they can just pretend it doesn’t exist. But when Trump even questions a ruling, it’s a ‘constitutional crisis’ and the ‘end of democracy’?

This is the left’s playbook in a nutshell:

  • When Democrats ignore a judge: “We’re saving democracy from partisan courts!”
  • When Trump appeals a ruling: “This is authoritarianism!”

It’s all just projection and panic because Trump is actually governing the way he promised to. The reality is, these judges have no business dictating executive policy, and the administration has every right to challenge their rulings through legal appeals.
