Pam Bondi Announces Legal Action Against New York Over Drivers Licenses Policy

Oh, you knew this was coming. Attorney General Pam Bondi took the gloves off Thursday, announcing that the Justice Department is suing New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, and DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder for giving illegal aliens the privilege of a driver’s license. And she wasn’t subtle about it, either.

“New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today.”

That was Bondi’s message, loud and clear. And this is no empty threat—she’s already taken legal action against Illinois for its sanctuary policies, and now, New York is strike two. Any state that thinks it can keep ignoring federal law? You’re next.

At the center of this legal battle is New York’s so-called “Green Light Law,” which allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses—essentially giving them a government-issued ID despite having no legal right to be in the country.

Bondi made it clear that this isn’t just about driver’s licenses—it’s about national security, public safety, and upholding the rule of law.

“Violent criminals, gang members, drug traffickers, human smugglers will no longer terrorize the American people.”

She wasn’t just speaking in hypotheticals, either. Standing right behind her was Angel Mom Tammy Nobles, whose daughter, Kayla Marie Hamilton, was murdered last year—allegedly by an illegal alien and MS-13 gang member.

This lawsuit is just another example of the Trump administration’s broader push to crack down on illegal immigration and put American citizens first. Trump promised to restore law and order, and Bondi’s Justice Department is making sure that happens.

New York’s leadership, of course, will fight this tooth and nail. Hochul and James have been all in on making New York a safe haven for illegal immigrants, even as their policies have fueled a migrant crisis that has overwhelmed the state’s social services and enraged local residents.
