Well, well, well—looks like the woke network is eating its own. MSNBC, the self-proclaimed bastion of “progressive” values, is giving most of Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid’s production teams the boot in what they’re calling a restructuring but what sure looks like an old-fashioned housecleaning. And let’s be honest—when a network tells its staff to reapply for jobs they already have? That’s corporate-speak for don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
MSNBC, which has been spinning in circles trying to figure out how to stay relevant, is making a big shake-up. With Maddow cutting back to hosting only on Mondays (except for the first 100 days of Trump’s new term), the network decided to wipe the slate clean and start fresh.
- Producers for Maddow, Reid, and several weekend shows are being laid off.
- Employees can either take severance or reapply for new roles—though some suspect those roles will come with pay cuts.
- The network is being spun off from NBCUniversal and is trying to cut costs, much like CNN did last month with its mass layoffs of 200 staffers.
Now, they’re trying to claim this isn’t a layoff, just a “reallocation” of resources. Right. Because nothing screams “stable job security” like having to reapply for your own job.
Rachel Maddow, MSNBC’s biggest star, took to the airwaves Monday night and torched the network for its handling of the situation. She called it “inefficient,” “unnecessary,” and flat-out bad for morale. She also went to bat for Joy Reid, calling her firing a “bad mistake.”
“Personally, I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door. It is not my call and I understand that, but that’s what I think.”
Translation: Maddow is upset that MSNBC is pulling the plug on her ideological sidekick, and she’s making sure everyone knows it.
She also made a not-so-subtle jab at MSNBC’s decision to cancel multiple minority-led shows:
“It is also unnerving to see on a network where we’ve got two, two non-white hosts in prime time, both of our non-white hosts in prime time are losing their shows, as is Katie Phang on the weekend. And that feels worse than bad no matter who replaces them. That feels indefensible and I do not defend it.”
So now, Maddow is accusing her own network of systemic bias? The same network that spent years lecturing America about “equity” and “inclusion” is now being called out by its own primetime host? The irony writes itself.

The bottom line? MSNBC is hemorrhaging money and desperately trying to stay afloat in a changing media landscape. Their strategy of being a 24/7 anti-Trump propaganda machine didn’t pay off the way they hoped. The ratings bump they got during Trump’s first term disappeared, and now that he’s back, they’re hoping to recreate the magic.
But here’s the problem: America has moved on.
The endless “Trump is literally Hitler” narrative isn’t hitting the same anymore, and the network is struggling to adapt. The only thing left to do? Cut costs and try to revamp their programming.
