U.S. warplanes hit two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island on Sunday. The island sits in the Strait of Hormuz, off the coast of Bandar Abbas. U.S. Central Command’s Capt. Tim Hawkins stated that U.S. forces hit two Iranian launchers on Larak Island earlier today. Observers saw Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces getting ready to fire rockets carrying sea mines toward the Strait of Hormuz.
Since July 29, these strikes represent the initial American assaults on Iran that have been acknowledged. The targets are hundreds of miles away from Kharg Island, which handles most of Iran’s oil exports. Per Breitbart, U.S. forces cleared most of the mines Iran had previously placed in the shipping routes last week.
Trump told Fox News reporter Trey Yingst, “We’re going to hit them hard. There will be a response.” He added that nearly all missiles fired at a U.S. base in Jordan were stopped by air defense systems. One missile was allowed to pass because it did not threaten anything significant.
President Trump posted a ten-second video showing Iran’s Kharg Island oil terminal being “blown to smithereens.” He claimed this destruction happened shortly after the first U.S. airstrikes. However, none of the actual strikes were confirmed to have hit Kharg Island. The video was described by Breitbart as A.I.-generated.
Hamid Bovard, serving as chief executive of the state-run National Iranian Oil Company, labeled the tweet “laughable”. He stated that “conditions in Kharg are calm and appropriate” on Monday. Bovard claimed the facility remains operational while workers repair damage from earlier strikes. About 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports normally pass through this single terminal.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Iran is officially a Failed Nation. IT IS DEAD!” He listed reasons including a lack of Navy and Air Force, no currency, and 300% inflation. He also claimed over 100,000 protesters have died. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced what he called an “economic D-Day” last week. This move threatens secondary sanctions against anyone doing business with Iran.
Iran fired a drone toward the United Arab Emirates on Monday. The UAE Defense Ministry said the drone was intercepted over its territorial waters. This incident adds to the rising worries over escalation in the region. Despite his desire for a meeting, Trump doubted whether Tehran could be trusted to finalize a deal.
