GOP Releases Memo

With the midterm elections looming, the political sparring between Republicans and Democrats has intensified, this time over an unfinished promise from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee (NRCC) is using the missed deadline as ammunition, releasing a satirical memo dubbed “Project 2026” that paints Democrats as pushing a deeply unpopular agenda.

Back in April, Jeffries pledged that House Democrats would, within 100 days, unveil a “blueprint for a better America” — one focused not on Donald Trump, but on policies aimed at the public’s needs. That 100-day mark has now passed, and Republicans say the absence of such a plan underscores what they view as Democratic disarray.

The NRCC’s “Project 2026” memo accuses Democrats, under the direction of Jeffries and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of seeking a return to “Joe Biden’s America” through measures they say will hurt average Americans.

The list of alleged priorities ranges from increasing government spending and reversing Trump-era tax cuts to dismantling border protections and offering government-funded benefits to undocumented immigrants.

Some points lean into political theater, such as accusations that Democrats would mandate pronouns and DEI training nationwide, or ban advertisements featuring celebrities like Sydney Sweeney and Shane Gillis. Others target specific policy stances, such as support for the Green New Deal, opposition to fossil fuel-powered vehicles, and proposals for government-run grocery stores in certain neighborhoods.

NRCC spokesman Mike Marinella framed the memo as a warning to voters, claiming Democrats’ vision would bring “higher taxes, open borders, skyrocketing gas prices, no more gas cars, crime in the streets, pronouns before commonsense, and no more freedom.” He argued that House Republicans are the last safeguard against such changes.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) fired back quickly, dismissing the memo as a distraction from what they called the GOP’s “failed leadership.” Spokesman Viet Shelton accused Republicans of siding with billionaires at the expense of the middle class, pointing to lost manufacturing jobs, unpopular legislation, and broken promises.

While Republicans portray “Project 2026” as a glimpse into a dangerous future, Democrats insist it’s nothing more than partisan theater.
