Kamala Harris may be out of office, but that hasn’t stopped her from collecting awards for—well, no one’s quite sure what.
The former vice president was honored with the Chairman’s Award at the 56th NAACP Image Awards, an event that quickly turned into a viral punchline after social media users mocked both her acceptance and the speech that followed.
Taking the stage at the BET-televised event, Harris launched into a dramatic monologue about America’s future under President Donald Trump’s second term, warning of “flames on our horizons” and “shadows gathering over our democracy.”
If the goal was to inspire, the result was quite the opposite—what followed was a wave of online ridicule, as users on X (formerly Twitter) wasted no time pointing out the irony of an award being handed to a politician best known for her word salads, awkward laughter, and a failed presidential run.

The account Clown World summed up the reaction bluntly: “Remember this fraud? Kamala Harris accepting an award for doing absolutely nothing. The NAACP Image Awards proving once again that it’s all about optics, not achievements.” Others piled on, comparing Harris’ win to giving an Oscar to a background extra or calling it the equivalent of a “participation trophy.”
Some users suggested the NAACP was attempting to rehabilitate Harris’ image after her stunning loss in the 2024 election, while others outright condemned the organization for honoring someone they claimed had “enabled and assisted genocide.”
One user quipped that her award-winning achievement must have been “a killer recipe for word salad”—a nod to her history of baffling public statements. Another referenced her infamous campaign trail moment when she claimed to cook collard greens in a bathtub, joking that the award was given for “Her bathtub collard green recipe!”
