The campaign trail is heating up, and Vice President Kamala Harris, alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, recently embarked on a bus tour through Western Pennsylvania.
This tour took place just a day before the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Chicago, setting the stage for what’s expected to be a big rally for the Harris-Walz ticket.
The tour was a bit of a throwback to classic, small-town campaigning. Harris and Walz, joined by their spouses Doug Emhoff and Gwen Walz, made their way through the area in a blue campaign bus. Their stops included a visit to a campaign office near Pittsburgh, a firehouse, a high school, and, of course, a Sheetz convenience store—because if you’re in Pennsylvania, a trip to Sheetz is practically mandatory.
Kamala word salads are so back: “Our election is about understanding the importance of this beautiful country of ours in terms of what we stand for around the globe as a democracy. Throughout the day, the duo focused less on specific policies and more on broader messages about character, perseverance, and the future of the country. It’s clear that they were aiming to inspire rather than delve into the nitty-gritty of political discourse. However, the decision to avoid detailed policy discussions might have been strategic, especially given Harris’s track record with unscripted moments.
Speaking of which, Harris had a few of those moments during this tour. With no teleprompter in sight, she was left to connect with voters on her own, and the results were, well, classic Kamala.
At one point, she attempted to explain the importance of the upcoming election, saying, “Our election is about understanding the importance of this beautiful country of ours in terms of what we stand for around the globe as a democracy. As a democracy, we know there’s a duality to the nature of democracy. On the one hand, incredible strength when it is intact. What it does for its people to protect and defend their rights, their liberty, and their freedom—incredibly strong. And incredibly fragile.”

It’s the kind of statement that’s meant to be profound but ends up leaving people scratching their heads, wondering what she’s trying to say. Harris also addressed a local high school football team, offering the advice, “You will be undefeated even if you don’t win every game.” While the sentiment might be well-meaning, it’s the sort of pep talk that might leave a coach more embarrassed than inspired.
