Police Report Details High Profile Car Accident In Maryland

Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. John Fetterman was found to be speeding and at fault when he rear-ended another car on Sunday, according to a police report obtained by DailyMail.com.

The incident occurred in northern Maryland, near the Pennsylvania and West Virginia border. Maryland State Police reported that Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse at a high rate of speed when he struck a Chevrolet Impala.

The collision happened just before 8 a.m. on the westbound route of Interstate 70 near Interstate 68. Both Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, were transported to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Fetterman was treated for a bruised shoulder and both were discharged the same afternoon.

Fetterman has faced significant health challenges, notably suffering a stroke while running for Senate in 2022. Since then, he has struggled with audio impairments, necessitating the use of a phone or tablet-based transcriber to understand colleagues and reporters on Capitol Hill.

This has led to the installation of a live closed captioning system at his desk in Washington, D.C. Fetterman’s communication issues have sometimes resulted in him responding with partial sentences to reporters’ questions.

The preliminary investigation by Maryland State Police indicates that the Traverse and Impala were both traveling west when, for unknown reasons, the Traverse struck the rear of the Impala. A passenger in the Traverse and the operator of the Impala were also transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A spokesperson for Fetterman’s office confirmed the accident, stating, “On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a car accident with another driver. Out of an abundance of caution, they were evaluated at a local hospital. John was treated for a bruised shoulder, and they were discharged that afternoon.” The couple is now back home in Braddock, Pennsylvania, and reportedly doing well.

No citations were issued at the scene, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Fetterman’s office has not yet commented on the police report finding him at fault for the crash.

This incident adds another layer to the ongoing narrative surrounding Fetterman, who has been navigating his role in the Senate amidst significant health challenges. As the investigation continues, further details may emerge about the circumstances of the crash and its implications for the senator.
