Trump Responds To Biden Comments Following Ceasefire Deal

President Joe Biden’s farewell address may have been intended to highlight his administration’s final accomplishments, but it seems to have ended on a controversial note, with criticism mounting over his attempt to take credit for the newly brokered Israel-Hamas cease-fire deal. According to a Trump transition official, Biden’s claim of spearheading the agreement is not only misleading but also undermines the pivotal role played by President-elect Donald Trump and his team in securing the breakthrough.

“Joe Biden is going out sad,” the Trump official told Fox News Digital. “Lying to the nation trying to take credit for a deal that all parties credit President Trump for making happen. Biden has had well over a year to secure the release of these hostages and peace. He failed. Trump succeeded.”

The cease-fire agreement comes after 15 months of conflict between Israel and Hamas, with the deal marking a tentative truce and the release of dozens of hostages. During his Oval Office farewell address on Wednesday evening, Biden opened with what many saw as a premature victory lap, attributing the agreement to his administration’s long-standing efforts.

“This plan was developed and negotiated by my team,” Biden said, adding that the incoming Trump administration had been kept “fully informed” as part of a smooth transition process.

However, the details surrounding the deal paint a different picture. Sources close to the negotiations have highlighted the instrumental role played by President-elect Trump’s team, particularly his incoming Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff. Witkoff reportedly met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent days, a meeting described as pivotal in advancing the cease-fire and hostage release. Netanyahu himself publicly thanked Trump on Wednesday evening for his contributions.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke this evening with US President-elect Donald Trump and thanked him for his assistance in advancing the release of the hostages and for helping Israel bring an end to the suffering of dozens of hostages and their families,” read an official statement on the Prime Minister’s X account. Netanyahu also praised Trump’s commitment to ensuring Gaza would “never be a haven for terrorism.”

Notably, Netanyahu also thanked Biden for his efforts in advancing the deal. However, the dual acknowledgments highlight the bipartisan efforts involved, with many observers crediting the Trump team’s final push as the decisive factor. The incoming administration appears to have stepped in at a critical moment to help finalize the deal, earning praise from both Israeli officials and international observers.

When pressed earlier in the day on whether the history books would credit Trump or Biden for the agreement, Biden seemed visibly irritated. “Is that a joke?” he snapped at Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich during a press conference, before abruptly ending the exchange.
