As of writing, one out of a large group of 51 intelligence veterans who recently signed a document that suggests that the entire story surrounding the Hunter Biden laptop could be part of a Russian disinformation operation that stated they knew the contents of laptop had been genuine at the time.
The letter, which was made public in the days running up to the 2020 presidential election, was utilized as a means to dismiss the laptop and its provenance. Much of the contents of the laptop have been sent out to be analyzed and have been proven to be entirely authentic.
As part of a new interview after just two years, one former Defense Intelligence Agency deputy director, Douglas Wise, explained to The Australian, “all of us figured that a significant portion of that content had to be real to make any Russian disinformation credible.”
The group that signed, which included former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, issued a warning which stated that the October 2020 arrival of reporting concerning the laptop “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”
Going even further than what was included in the letter, Politico utilized a headline that claimed that these former Intel officials were stating that the story was “Russian disinfo.”
As the father of Hunter, then-candidate Joe Biden made use of the letter to try and hide and throw doubt at the story of his son’s laptop as part of one of his main debates against then-President Donald Trump.
“The letter said it had the earmarks of Russian deceit and we should consider that as a possibility,” expressed Wise. “It did not say Hunter Biden was a good guy, it didn’t say what he did was right and it wasn’t exculpatory, it was just a cautionary letter.”
Wise also stated that he feels absolutely zero regrets in his choice to sign the letter “because context is important” and explained that the “chain of custody” for the laptop revealed the possibility that “Russians or even ill-intended conservative elements could have planted stuff in there.”
The laptop itself, which was allegedly ditched inside of a Delaware computer repair shop before being confiscated by the FBI, contains a number of details concerning the financial affairs and personal life of Hunter Biden. The president’s son is now currently being investigated at the federal level due to his foreign business dealings and tax affairs.
